Local Rule – Green-side sprinkler heads (2 X 2 rule) See Rule 16.1 of the USGA rules for additional reference.
- Condition 1: Ball in General Area: The ball must be located in the general area, which typically refers to the fairway and rough, but not within a bunker or penalty area.
- Condition 2: Obstruction Near the Green: The immovable obstruction (like a sprinkler head) must be within two club-lengths of the putting green.
- Condition 3: Obstruction Near the Ball: The immovable obstruction must be within two club-lengths of the ball.
- Relief Procedure: If all three conditions are met, the golfer can lift the ball, find the nearest point of complete relief where the obstruction no longer interferes with their line of play, and drop the ball within one club-length of that point, not closer to the hole.
- No Penalty: Taking relief under the 2x2 rule is penalty-free.
